It’s arguably China’s most famous mountain. It's got unforgettable sunrises, beautiful sunsets, lots of lush green forestry, hot springs, and plenty of tourist 'friendly' walking planks perched on the steepest cliffs imaginable. By the way, it's listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is classified as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration. Guessed right yet? Well, it's Huangshan "Yellow" Mountain--located in Anhui Province--and yep, I've been! But more importantly, here's 10 reasons why you should go: You Can Take a Tour.First up, you can reach Yellow Mountain by tour. Too lazy to get to Huangshan by train? Or even worse, too worrisome about your Mandarin and if you can get their own your own? Well, there are a whole bunch of tours you can take--whether local or foreign--to reach it. Join a tour, kick back on a shuttle bus, stay the night, and depart with your group the next day. How easy is that? From Shanghai you can try tour groups like WannaTravel, M2 Adventure, and Travel Society. It's Got a Cableway ...That's right, Yellow Mountain's got a cableway! Actually, what mountain in China doesn't have any type of lift these days? You won't need to venture up and down the mountain by foot. Instead, arrive at the base, hop on a shuttle bus to Yungu Cableway, and you're good to go for a 30-minute ride full of grand, 360-degree introductory views to one of China's most talked about mountains. It's Good From the Beginning ...You'll be wanting to whip out your camera from the very moment you reach the top. Catch sight of stairways hanging off the sides of cliffs and large boulders. Step foot on viewing platforms that'll let visitors peer out over Yellow Mountain's rocky landscape. And if you've arrived in the evening ... And Then There's the Sunset ...Catch the sunset over Huangshan. I've seen it myself--it's got swivels of pink, orange, yellow, and blue that fill up the sky like you've probably never seen over any big city in the country. No factories, no pollution, no obstruction--just nature at its best! You Can Sleep in a Tent ...Because ... why not? Feel more 'close to nature'. Bond over setting up a tent. Interact with other campers. Become more engaged in the environment and ... yada, yada, yada. This one just looks like a cool thing to do. ...Or Sleep in a Hotel at the Top.Yellow Mountain's got a bunch of hotels right atop of its highest peaks. The best part--well, outside of having some place to rest after along hike--is having easy access to catching the starry night sky over Huangshan and its infamous sunrise in the early am. But be warned: there's NO Wifi. Oh, and about that sunrise ... And What a Sunrise ...Like I said, it's pretty unforgettable. First there's total darkness, and as the sun rises you'll get mixtures of orange, red, yellow, and pink creeping over a sea of clouds hovering above the mountains. It's quiet. It's peaceful. It's serene. And if you head to Yellow Mountain without seeing the sunrise then you'll have missed out on the best part! It's a Really Good Hike.I mean really good. But forget that you're legs will feel like concrete, 1000lbs. slabs afterwards. And by the way, if some old locals can carry heavy sacks of rice up the mountain 3x a day then you have no reason to complain! Nevertheless, the hike passes through lots of picturesque forestry and over, down, and around huge boulders and cliffs, which means the views are absolutely incredible at pretty much every turn. At least you've got something awesome to look at, right? The View. And what a view! Hiking is all about getting up close with nature and catching some crazy views. Yellow Mountain's got em', and by 'got em' I mean by tenfold. There are dozens of platforms setup to see everything far and near. And then of course, when all else fails, just stand on any boulder you can find and you'll probably be able to see everything for miles on end. It's Close to Shanghai! And last but not least, Huangshan "Yellow" Mountain is all but a mere 5 hour high-speed train ride from Shanghai. Yeah, enough said! 5 Tips For Visiting Yellow Mountain
